Samsung’s approach to utilizing chipsets in their flagship Galaxy S series smartphones has been a topic of discussion in recent months. While there were rumors suggesting a full switch to Exynos SoCs for the Galaxy S25 lineup, a new report has contradicted this claim. It appears that Samsung will once again opt to split the Galaxy S25 smartphones between Qualcomm’s Snapdragon and their in-house Exynos chipsets.

According to a report by DigiTimes Asia, Samsung will continue with their current strategy of using both Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Exynos 2500 chipsets in the upcoming Galaxy S25 series. While specific details on which phones will run on Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 are not provided, it is expected that the top-end Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature this Qualcomm chipset in all markets. Other models in the series, such as the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+, may feature either the Exynos 2500 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, depending on the region they are sold in.

In the previous Galaxy S24 series, Samsung used Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 globally for the Ultra model, while the base Galaxy S24 and S24+ in markets outside the US were powered by the Exynos 2400 chipset. This approach seems to continue in the upcoming Galaxy S25 series, with a mix of Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets across different models.

The potential shift in chipset strategy extends beyond the Galaxy S series to Samsung’s foldable devices as well. Previous rumors suggested that even the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 could feature either an Exynos SoC or a Snapdragon chip, depending on the region. This move would deviate from Samsung’s usual practice of predominantly using Snapdragon processors in their foldable smartphones.

Samsung has been working on narrowing the performance gap between Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets. Reports indicate that the upcoming Exynos 2500 processor has shown superior performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC in terms of CPU and GPU capabilities. However, these claims are yet to be substantiated with concrete performance metrics and benchmark numbers.

While specific benchmark results are awaited, the Exynos 2500 chipset is rumored to consist of a high-performance Cortex-X5 core clocked at 3.2GHz or higher, along with multiple other Cortex cores at varying clock speeds. On the other hand, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset is expected to debut with a custom Oryon CPU and power flagship Android phones from various manufacturers, including the Samsung Galaxy S25 series.

Samsung’s decision to continue using a mix of Qualcomm Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets in their Galaxy S25 series reflects their ongoing efforts to balance performance, market preferences, and regional requirements.
