Recently, Rashee Rice and Teddy Knox have found themselves embroiled in a legal battle in Texas. They are being sued for a substantial amount, with $1 million in actual damages and an additional $10 million sought in punitive damages. The lawsuit stems from a six-vehicle crash that occurred on March 30 in Dallas, where two individuals, Edvard Petrovskiy and Irina Gromova, claim they were injured.
Petrovskiy and Gromova allege that Rice and Knox were racing their vehicles at excessive speeds, well above the posted limits. This reckless behavior allegedly led to the six-vehicle crash that resulted in the plaintiffs sustaining injuries. Rice, who is a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was the leaseholder of both vehicles involved in the incident and was driving one of them at the time. Knox, a football player and former teammate of Rice’s at SMU Mustangs, was driving the other vehicle.
Both Rice, aged 23, and Knox, aged 21, are facing serious legal consequences as a result of the crash. They are each charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury, as reported by the police. The lawsuit filed by Petrovskiy and Gromova includes claims of various injuries such as brain trauma, cuts requiring stitches, bruises, disfigurement, and internal bleeding.
The plaintiffs are seeking actual damages amounting to $71,122.69 to cover medical expenses, physical pain and suffering, loss of earning capacity, mental anguish, and property damage. These damages are a reflection of the significant impact the crash has had on their lives and well-being.
Following the incident, Rashee Rice took to Instagram on April 3 to express that he takes “full responsibility” for his actions. Despite this, Chiefs coach Andy Reid mentioned that the team anticipated Rice’s participation in their offseason program. However, the coach refrained from divulging whether Rice would be involved later in the spring when the program transitions to Kansas City. Reid indicated a need to gather more information from law enforcement before making a decision.
The lawsuit against Rice and Knox underscores the serious repercussions of reckless driving and the importance of accountability in such situations. It is a stark reminder of the potential harm that can arise from irresponsible behavior on the road.
