AI enthusiasts can try out the Phi-3 model through platforms like Azure and Ollama. However, the open weights for Phi-3-mini are yet to be released, raising questions about the transparency of Microsoft’s approach. The company has not disclosed details about the open source license for Phi-3-mini, unlike Grok AI, which recently issued an Apache 2.0 license allowing both academic and commercial usage of its AI model.
While Microsoft’s Phi-3 AI language model shows promise in terms of size and performance, there are still concerns about the lack of peer-reviewed validation and transparency regarding open source access.
