Apple Music is set to receive upgrades that will enhance the app’s performance on iOS 18 and macOS 15 later this year. Reports indicate that the upcoming operating system updates will include revamped versions of Apple Music and QuickTime, the company’s audio and video playback apps. These updates are expected to bring significant improvements to media playback on Apple devices.
One of the key improvements expected in the new version of Apple Music is enhanced support for the existing crossfade feature. The new feature, known as “smart song transitions,” is said to be an improved version of the crossfade feature that seamlessly transitions between tracks. This new feature will lower the volume of a track a few seconds before it ends, while simultaneously starting playback of the next song and ramping up the volume. This will eliminate any silence between tracks and provide a more seamless listening experience for users.
In addition to the revamped Apple Music app, Apple is reportedly testing a new feature called ‘Passthrough’ that will be available on supported devices later this year. While there is limited information available about this feature, reports suggest that it will only be accessible on specific models. It is unclear at this stage what exactly the Passthrough feature will do, but it is expected to enhance the audio or video playback experience for users on compatible devices.
