The Future of AI Innovation with Oppo

Oppo, a Chinese smartphone maker, has recently unveiled its ambitious vision for artificial intelligence (AI) and highlighted its efforts in bringing AI innovations to users worldwide. The company introduced several AI features to select smartphones earlier this year with the ColorOS New Year Edition update and has since expanded these features to more devices globally.

In a significant move, Oppo announced the establishment of its AI Centre in Shenzhen, which will serve as the hub for driving its AI innovation. The company aims to bring AI features to smartphones across all price points by the end of 2024, including existing AI features and new ones that will be unveiled in the coming months. Oppo has even set up an AI R&D Centre to develop proprietary technologies, underscoring its commitment to AI advancement.

Oppo revealed that it has filed over 5,399 AI patents globally, with a significant focus on AI imaging, showcasing the company’s dedication to AI research and development. Furthermore, Oppo is collaborating with industry leaders such as Google and Microsoft, as well as chipset manufacturers like MediaTek and Qualcomm, to push the boundaries of AI technology. The collaboration spans various AI domains, including image processing, computer vision, speech technology, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning.

One of Oppo’s key areas of focus is the development of large language models (LLMs), with the company actively working on large vision models and multimodal models. Oppo boasts of deploying an LLM with 7 billion parameters directly to smartphones, showcasing its commitment to incorporating cutting-edge AI capabilities into its devices. The company has pledged not to utilize user data for training models, emphasizing its strong data security and privacy protection measures, including third-party certifications and end-to-end encryption.

In a strategic move, Oppo has partnered with Microsoft to enhance the natural voice and text conversion experience for its users. Leveraging Microsoft’s Fast Transcription and Neural TTS technologies, Oppo is working towards providing a seamless AI-driven experience on its smartphones. The collaboration also extends to integrating desktop AI with mobile AI, allowing users to leverage desktop applications on their smartphones for tasks like content generation and text translation.

Another crucial aspect of Oppo’s AI strategy is its partnership with MediaTek to develop chipsets with dedicated AI processing units, known as Neural Processing Units (NPUs) and accelerators. By working closely with the chipmaker, Oppo aims to optimize AI features for its hardware and software stack, ensuring a seamless and efficient AI experience for its users. Additionally, Oppo is leveraging Google’s Gemini LLM to power some of the AI features on its flagship devices, further enhancing the AI capabilities of its smartphones.

Oppo’s commitment to AI innovation is evident through its strategic partnerships, focus on large language models, and development of AI chipsets. By collaborating with industry leaders and investing in cutting-edge AI research, Oppo is poised to deliver groundbreaking AI experiences to its users in the near future. With a strong emphasis on data security and privacy, Oppo is setting new standards in AI development and integration, making it a key player in the evolving AI landscape.
