The Failure of Triple-A Console Games on iPhone 15 Pro

The iPhone 15 Pro was supposed to be a game-changer in the mobile gaming industry, offering hardware capable of running triple-A games on mobile platforms. However, the reality is much different than what was expected. Major console titles like Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage have not been able to attract a significant number of users on the iPhone.

Commercial Failures of Triple-A Games

According to a recent report by mobilegamer.biz, the number of iPhone users willing to pay full price to unlock these games beyond the initial free playable section is incredibly small. Despite the high prices of these games, with some going up to Rs. 3,999 in India, the revenue generated from these titles is significantly lower than expected.

For example, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which was released on iPhone 15 Pro, has reportedly only seen under 3,000 users paying $49.99 to fully unlock the game. The estimated gross revenue from the game is $138,000, which is miniscule compared to free-to-play games on mobile platforms that often have millions of downloads.

Similarly, other triple-A titles like Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil Village, and Death Stranding Director’s Cut have also not fared well on the iPhone platform. Resident Evil 4 Remake has only seen around 7,000 users paying to access the full game, with estimated revenue of $208,000. Resident Evil Village has recorded 3,70,000 downloads but only around 5,750 users have paid to unlock the full game.

While some estimates paint a slightly more positive picture, the overall trend is clear – triple-A console games on the iPhone are not attracting the user base they were expected to. Assassin’s Creed Mirage has seen revenue of $221,000 from 2,79,000 downloads, but the number of users paying for the full game is still very low. Resident Evil 4 has seen 710,000 installs but only around 15,000 people paid to unlock the game.

The failure of triple-A console games on the iPhone 15 Pro highlights the challenges of bringing high-priced games to the mobile platform. While the hardware may be capable of running these games, the user base is not willing to pay the high prices required to access the full gaming experience. Mobile gaming continues to be dominated by free-to-play games, and it seems that triple-A console titles have yet to find their place in the mobile gaming market.
