House Democrats Hold Closed-Door Meeting To Discuss Biden’s Reelection Bid

House Democrats recently gathered at their national party headquarters in Washington for a critical closed-door meeting to address growing concerns over President Joe Biden’s reelection bid. The meeting, which was the first time the full caucus had convened since Biden’s lackluster debate performance against former President Donald Trump, has sparked a crisis within the party. Some members of the caucus are now questioning whether to continue supporting Biden’s bid or if it would be best for him to withdraw from the race.

Following Biden’s feeble and raspy showing in the debate, panic spread among Democrats, leading to calls from top donors, pundits, and allies for Biden, 81, to abandon his bid for another four years in office. According to NBC’s tally, at least eight sitting House Democrats are now urging Biden to withdraw from the race. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., revealed that some members within the caucus meeting also voiced support for Biden’s withdrawal, highlighting the discord within the party.

Reaffirmation of Support

Despite the growing calls for Biden to step aside, not all Democrats are in agreement. Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.J., who initially called for Biden to drop out, has since reversed his position and expressed full support for the incumbent. Nadler emphasized the importance of Biden winning the election and announced his intention to campaign for him. While a few House Democrats have publicly voiced their support for Biden, no Democratic senators have joined the call for him to withdraw from the race.

In response to the mounting pressure to step aside, Biden has firmly rejected calls to withdraw from the race. He maintains that he is the best candidate to compete against Trump in the upcoming presidential election. Since the debate, Biden has been actively working to shore up support from key constituencies, including the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Democratic leaders have issued statements reaffirming their support for the Biden-Harris ticket, emphasizing the need for unity within the party.

Outside the Democratic National Committee building, a group of protesters, reportedly from the National Republican Campaign Committee, raised doubts about Biden’s fitness for office. Clad in sunglasses and suits, the protesters held up signs questioning Biden’s suitability for the presidency. The presence of these protesters underscores the growing political tensions surrounding Biden’s reelection bid and the impact it may have on the upcoming election.

As the debate rages on within the Democratic Party, the question of Biden’s candidacy remains a contentious issue. With less than four months until Election Day, Democrats are faced with a crucial decision regarding the future of their party and the viability of Biden’s bid for a second term in office. The outcome of this internal struggle will undoubtedly shape the course of the upcoming election and the direction of American politics for years to come.
