Studiocanal, the Paris-based production-distribution house, is expanding its operations to the Big Apple. With Anne Chérel taking on the role of Chief Commercial Officer, the company will be launching an office in New York City alongside its existing offices in LA. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the distribution and global sales of all its film projects by collaborating with American partners.
Among the projects that Studiocanal is working on are collaborations with various American distributors. For instance, the company is releasing the third installment of the Paddington series in partnership with Sony Pictures, while projects like Back to Black, We Live in Time, and Huntington are being released with other prominent American distributors such as Focus Features, A24, and Sony Pictures Classics. Discussions are also underway with an American partner for the release of Paris Has Fallen.
Anne Chérel’s promotion to Chief Commercial Officer comes at a time when Studiocanal is undergoing significant executive-level changes. Dominique Jubin has been appointed as the Head of French Drama at Ciné+ OCS, Isabelle Pain has joined as the Head of Global Acquisitions & Analytics, and Sara Reese Geffroy has been brought in as the SVP of Studiocanal Stories label and TV series development. Chérel, who has been with the company since 2009, will now report to Anna Marsh, Deputy CEO of Canal+ Group and CEO of Studiocanal.
In addition to overseeing the establishment of the New York City office, Chérel will continue to manage global distribution for Studiocanal. Her expertise in international distribution has been instrumental in the success of projects like Autumn and the Black Jaguar, Back to Black, and Beating Hearts. Marsh commended Chérel for her exceptional knowledge of the global market and her managerial skills, which have been pivotal in building a strong and dedicated sales team at Studiocanal.
Studiocanal’s expansion to New York City marks a significant milestone in the company’s growth trajectory. With a focus on strengthening partnerships with American distributors and enhancing global sales and distribution, Studiocanal is poised to make a lasting impact on the international film industry. Chérel’s appointment as Chief Commercial Officer signifies a new chapter for the company, underlining its commitment to innovation and excellence in the entertainment sector.
