AMD stole the spotlight at Computex 2024 with the announcement of its latest processors designed to cater to the growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. The company introduced four new Ryzen 9000 series chipsets targeting gamers and heavy workloads, along with two new Ryzen AI 300 series chipsets specifically crafted to power AI PCs.
The Ryzen 9000 series processors are based on AMD’s cutting-edge Zen 5 architecture and come equipped with integrated GPUs and Neural Processing Units (NPUs) to enhance AI capabilities. AMD claims that these new desktop processors can deliver a significant 16 percent improvement in performance compared to their predecessors.
The Ryzen AI 300 series introduces the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 and the Ryzen AI 9 365 CPUs, continuing AMD’s naming convention established in 2022. The Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 boasts 12 high-performance Zen 5 cores, 24 threads, and a maximum clock speed of 5.1GHz. It features Radeon 890M graphics and a hefty 36MB cache. On the other hand, the Ryzen AI 9 365 comes with 10-core Zen 5 cores, 12 threads, a max clock speed of 5.0GHz, Radeon 880M graphics, and a 34MB cache.
Beyond the Zen 5 architecture used for the CPUs, AMD leveraged the XDNA2 architecture for the NPUs powering AI experiences on desktops. Both Ryzen AI chipsets feature NPUs capable of delivering 50 Tera operations per second (TOPS), ensuring seamless AI performance. These chipsets are set to hit the market in July and will debut in select Copilot+ PCs, such as the Asus Vivobook S 15 and the HP OmniBook, showcased at Microsoft’s Surface event.
In addition to the AI-focused chipsets, AMD introduced the Ryzen 9000 series during its keynote session. The lineup includes the Ryzen 9 9950X, Ryzen 9 9900X, Ryzen 7 9700X, and Ryzen 5 9600X CPUs. The flagship Ryzen 9 9950X stands out with its 16 high-performance Zen 5 cores, 32 threads, 80MB of L2+L3 cache, a base clock speed of 4.3GHz, and a blazing max clock speed of 5.7GHz. Geared towards gamers, AMD promises high frame rates, smooth gameplay, and enhanced performance for a wide range of AAA and esports titles.
The Ryzen 9000 series processors are not only focused on gaming but also promise faster 3D rendering, animation design, and product visualization. They are expected to deliver a superior computing experience across various workloads and applications, catering to both gamers and professionals alike.
While AMD showcased an impressive array of next-generation processors at Computex 2024, the company has yet to disclose pricing details for the new chipsets. However, enthusiasts and tech enthusiasts alike can look forward to the launch of these cutting-edge processors in July, ushering in a new era of performance and AI capabilities in the computing world.
