Apple’s Safari Browser Getting Major Upgrade with AI-Powered Features

Apple’s Safari web browser is reportedly in line for a significant upgrade, with new AI-powered features on the horizon. Recent reports indicate that Safari could be one of the first Apple apps to incorporate artificial intelligence into its functionality. The company is currently putting the finishing touches on the Safari 18 build, which is set to debut with iOS 18 and macOS 15.

One of the most standout features of the upcoming Safari update is the Intelligent Search tool. Drawing on Apple’s on-device AI technology, the browser will have the capability to summarize web pages and articles using the language-learning model Ajax. The AI feature will condense text into topic headlines and small paragraphs, providing users with a concise overview of the content. Similar functionalities are already offered by Google’s Gemini AI and Microsoft’s Copilot.

In addition to Intelligent Search, Apple is also working on a content-blocking feature for Safari 18, known as the Web Eraser tool. This tool will allow users to remove unwanted elements from web pages, such as banner ads, images, and text. Importantly, the browser will remember the elements that have been removed, even after the browsing session has ended. When revisiting the same page, users will have the option to restore the original layout or maintain the blocked elements.

Interface Revamp

Safari 18 will also feature a minor interface revamp, with a new page controls menu being added to the address bar. This menu will consolidate various browsing tools and features that were previously scattered across different menus within the browser. Noteworthy additions to the menu include options to activate the Intelligent Search and Web Eraser features, as well as the familiar ‘Aa’ for text resizing and zoom controls. The uniformity of the Safari interface across iOS 18 and macOS 15 suggests that Apple is aiming to create a consistent browsing experience on all devices.

Furthermore, Apple is enhancing the visual lookup feature within Safari, which currently exists in the Photos app and assists in identifying plants, pets, and landmarks from photos. The upcoming AI-powered enhancement will further improve the accuracy and speed of visual recognition within the browser.

Apple’s Safari browser is poised to receive a significant upgrade with the introduction of AI-powered features in the upcoming Safari 18 build. From Intelligent Search and Web Eraser tools to a redesigned interface and improved visual recognition capabilities, users can expect a more intelligent and streamlined browsing experience across all Apple devices.
