Google announced the release of Android 15 Beta 2 during its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2024. This new beta version of the operating system update brings a host of new security and privacy features. One standout feature is the introduction of Private Space, which allows users to hide specific apps on their smartphones in a secure location. Apps placed in the Private Space can be updated separately from the main apps and have their own storage area that is not accessible to other apps on the device. Additionally, users can protect the segregated app list with a passcode or biometric lock to completely conceal its existence.
Upgraded Anti-Theft Protections
Android 15 also includes enhancements to its anti-theft features to deter thieves from using stolen phones. One such feature is the Theft Detection Lock, which locks the device when it detects suspicious motion that could indicate theft. The Offline Device Lock automatically locks the device when internet access is disabled, a common tactic used by thieves. Users can also remotely lock or wipe their phones using a different number in case of theft. These features are designed to make it more challenging for thieves to use stolen devices and will be available on Android 10 and newer versions.

The operating system can automatically enable Bluetooth the next day, which may benefit Google’s Find My Device network. Android 15 Beta 2 is currently available for download on a range of Google Pixel smartphones, including the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet. Select smartphones from other manufacturers will also be eligible to install the beta versions of Android 15.
