Miller Moss, a junior at the University of Southern California, has finally been named the starting quarterback for the Trojans after three seasons as a backup. This announcement came from head coach Lincoln Riley, who made the decision ahead of the 2024 season. Moss will now have the opportunity to fill the shoes of his predecessor, Caleb Williams, who left behind an impressive legacy at USC.
Despite his limited playing time as a backup, Moss has shown promising skills on the field. Throughout his time at USC, he has only attempted 59 passes, resulting in 681 yards and seven touchdowns. However, it was his standout performance in the Holiday Bowl last December that solidified his position as the starting quarterback. In that game, Moss threw for 372 yards and completed six touchdowns, setting a Holiday Bowl record and leading USC to victory over Louisville.
Moss’ journey to becoming the starting quarterback was not without challenges. It took him all of spring practice and most of fall camp to secure the position. Despite facing competition from other quarterbacks, Moss remained dedicated and committed to his goal. His perseverance paid off, as he now has the opportunity to lead the Trojans on the field.
Throughout the offseason and into fall camp, Moss has taken on a more significant leadership role within the team. His dedication to improving himself and his ability to support and motivate his teammates have not gone unnoticed by coaches and staff. Moss has demonstrated a strong knowledge of the game and has shown his capability to lead the team both on and off the field.
As Moss prepares to take on the role of starting quarterback for USC, he faces his first regular-season game against LSU on September 1st in Las Vegas. This will be a crucial test for Moss as he steps into the spotlight and leads the Trojans onto the field. With the support of his coaches and teammates, Moss is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming season and cement his position as a valuable asset to the USC football team.
