The Google Pixel 9 series is rumored to receive a new weather app in the coming weeks, with the possibility of it being extended to other Pixel devices. This application is currently available for download as an APK on a third-party platform, although it is unofficial. Users can sideload the Pixel Weather app onto their existing Pixel smartphones.
The Pixel Weather app reportedly includes various features powered by artificial intelligence – a feature discovered during an APK teardown. Some of the features found in the app include current conditions, feels like temperature, UV index, visibility, wind speed, humidity, sunrise/sunset times, atmospheric pressure, and high/low temperatures. Additionally, users can access hourly and 10-day forecasts through the app’s carousel feature. The user interface of the app aligns with Google’s Material You design language and allows users to customize the placement of elements within the app.
An exciting discovery during the APK teardown of the Weather app revealed strings referencing a potential AI-powered feature known as AI Weather Summaries. While details about this feature remain scarce, its name suggests that users may have the ability to generate weather summaries for specific time periods and locations. Other features such as precipitation notifications and weather forecasts were also spotted during the teardown.
Although Google intended to launch the Weather app alongside the Pixel 9 series, it has already surfaced online on platforms like APKMirror. Some users have successfully installed the app on older Pixel devices and smartphones running on Android 14. However, due to its unofficial status, users may encounter frequent crashes or performance issues. For instance, changing the temperature unit on the device caused the app to become unresponsive.
The Pixel Weather app promises an exciting array of features for users, including AI capabilities and customizable elements. While its initial release may be limited to the Pixel 9 series, enthusiasts have already found ways to access it on older devices. As Google continues to refine the app and address any issues, users can look forward to a seamless weather experience on their Pixel smartphones.
